Old Main STREAM Academy did it. The Firebirds did it. We met growth and earned a “B” on our state report card! For too long, schools on the west side of Robeson County have carried the label of “low performing.” OMSA knew that label did not define us—and we proved it. This success didn’t happen by chance. It came from:
● Administrators, teachers, and staff digging into data, designing fresh instructional
approaches, and committing to professional development.
● Building a school culture rooted in local traditions, ways of knowing, and connection.
● Parents who believe in their children’s leadership and in OMSA’s mission.
● A Board of Directors who lead with vision, purpose, and daily dedication.
● Students who showed up and applied themselves in true Firebird fashion.
Together, we have built something special. OMSA has the best educators. OMSA has the best families. OMSA has the Firebirds. Now we ask: Can we do it again? Can we speak from the lens of our Elders? Real talk. Yes—if we continue to work together. We can keep growing as a school community and as leaders in education. Parents, please know how critical you are to your child’s success. Your priorities are reflected in your child. As we move into the fall, remember: students should learn hard, play hard, and seize opportunities. This is the Firebirds’ way of knowing. This year, our focus is clear:
● PreK–2nd grade: Building the foundation for learning to read.
● 3rd–8th grade: Making the transition to reading to learn—and mastering everything connected to it.
Please make sure your child is at school every day. Don’t let tardies or unnecessary absences take away from their success. Support OMSA’s mission in our daily operations. Finally, know this: we are deserving, and your child is deserving. Let’s keep soaring.
We are Innovative. Persistent. Self-Determined.
Go Firebirds!
